A downloadable soundtrack

Genre: Ambience, Adventure

Runtime: 1:48

Software: Paandora's Box, Google Chrome (its a website ON Chrome, not an application)

Inspirations: Orpheus (A video game that I helped develop - I was looking at our blue cave section (we made a club poster for recruitment, and I was looking at that image) and got inspired.

Process: I clicked boxes until the music sounded good :) Yeah so beepbox / paandora's box is really easy to learn but hard to master. I experimented with EQ filters and feedback loops, different instruments (there's like 1000 different instruments depending on what modded version of beepbox is used). No but really I had to write out a loop (a box with a number on it) then I can enter that number again to get that loop. Its an easier version of FamiTracker really.

For the notes, I used syncopation with the percussion as well as the melody. I think it gives it the "off-ness" that an Electric Cave ought to give (like in our game Orpheus). I also detuned it a few cents to give it that eerie feel too, like nothing is quite right. So when I flipped it, it made it even more off.

Additionally, I picked and chose when to flip and when to not flip. I think that doing so actually enhanced the song, as certain flipped parts sounded awesome with non-flipped parts.

I flipped some on different vertical axes, and by flipping I mean mirroring the first half onto the second half, and vice-versa, like in math where you flip around y=0 or some other vertical line. I also chose some drumsets to flip but did not flip others to get that syncopated feel. I flipped many, many tracks, not just the main (top green) melody.

This song is also loopable! Excluding the last measure, the two-measure break of just percussion allows for the song to start from.. the start!

Enjoy!
